I always wanted to do this post since a loooong time ago. I insisted to do my intern in sg, but last minute the plan failed, Sg government doesnt approve training pass for my university. And this opened my eyes. There's been a lot of different opinions from many people. People around my age tend to go oversea, while people much senior than me are more stick to here. (Of course they asked me to try working oversea too, saying it is good to try when I'm still young)
The purpose of this post is to clearly list down my reasoning and analyse them.
My previous reason to work in SG was:
1) MONEY!! I can save tons of money working in SG. This is haste up the process of become financial freedom.
2) Otaku romance. I love being alone and hide inside the room. LOL?
So why suddenly Levin dont want to work in SG anymore???
Here are my reasons:
1) Saving
The very first purpose I wanted to work in SG is because with the currency different, I am able to save more money. However if I reanalyse it now:
Lets say I get a SGD2300 (refering Jurong shipyard) pay a month in SG, and live with minimized lifestyle:
Rental=sgd600
Food=sgd200
Transport=sgd100
Malicious =sgd200
Parents=20%=sgd460 (OH YEAH FOR MY PAPA MAMA!!)
Total=1760
**minus my car loan rm950/SGD 400
I am able to save SGD340/mth. (RM816/mth)
Lets say I get a rm2800 (optimistic) pay a month in MY, and live with moderate lifestyle:
Rental=nil
Food=300
Transport=rm200 (petrol)
Malicious=rm350
Parents=20%=rm560
Car Loan=rm950
Total=rm2360
I am able to save RM440/mth.
Not sure whether the calculation is correct, since I havent include other things like PTPTN...etc. That means I can save extra rm400 a month, about rm5k more a year. rm5k/annual is alot, but it is lesser than what I first thought. However even with triple times of saving, I will still choose MY for now. Why? Look at the next few reasons.
2) Ease of life
First, people often do the mistake by only earning income using hard labor (from what that I read). What will happen if one day you cant work anymore? Means no more income. Hence one cannot spend all his time on working, he should spend time on finding lubang for passive income as well. (implying just work blindly and rely on the salary alone is not a good idea)
Second, I treat myself as a soon-to-die person, so I must live beautifully (which also beautifully contrast with my far-sighted personality). I am sure that I will enjoy my life more in MY comparing SG. When come to life, I stick to the principle of balance, "Live good in present, yet wont affect my future ambition."
3) Lubang
As mention in point 2, I want to find lubangs. I have been living in Malaysia for 23 years, I know the situation here better than SG. So getting a lubang here will be easier. Lubang as in getting a property, start up a business...etc. I am not sure, but the screwed political might help too. (not sure about this, just my personal feeling. however yes or no doesn't affect the situation as well)
To get lubangs, I must know more people. And I feel that I can do that better in MY (having more transport power and time to lepak around). And I am not sure if this is true, I think starting up a business in MY is easier than SG.
4) Backup
I said I want to have my own business, as it is the fastest way towards wealth (and wealth can complete big part of my dreams). And the reason to go SG, is to accumulate a pot of gold. However I have to include the chances that I fail to start any business, and continue to work as an engineer. If this does happen, I believe staying in MY since the beginning will be better. This is because I would know the people in my industry (eg, construction field) better. One of the way for the pay to raise is when people gorek you into their company. If I come back to MY 5 years later, I had to rebuild my connection again.
(this point is assuming I dont venture into business, and I will come back from SG. If I planned not to come back MY, it will be totally different.)
So this is the 4 reasons why I prefer to work in MY. HOWEVER this is my current decision, once I found a better reason to convince myself to work in SG, I might change my mind. All the best to our future!!
